Small Machine Tamping of the Track

The MSP small machine tamper and Minima 2 GKR (Plasser & Theurer) for precise correction of track direction and level where heavy machinery can't reach – tram lines, sidings, tight curves and grooved rail.
- Capacity: GEOKOD Rail currently operates 4 tamping units – we cover a wide range of tamping work, including switches
- Output: up to 250 m of tamped track per callout
Technology – Two Machines, One Control System
MSP – Small Machine Tamper
- Character: lightweight, simple and versatile
- Units: two independent units, each with four tamping tools
- Jack: for lining and lifting the track
- Gauges: 760, 1000, 1435 mm
- Rail: standard and grooved
- Output: up to 250 m / callout
- Guidance: RailSURV MSP control system
- Curves: works in tight curves too
- Rerailing: 2 t lifting equipment (provided on site)
Minima 2 GKR (Plasser & Theurer)
- Character: lightweight two-axle universal tamper
- Units: two, each with four asynchronously operating tamping tools
- Gauge: 1435 mm
- Rail: standard and grooved
- Dimensions / weight: 3.5 × 2.7 × 2.3 m / 3.5 t
- Min. curve radius: approx. 20 m
- Travel: hydraulic, up to 20 km/h
- Guidance: RailSURV MSP control system
- Transport: by truck
RailSURV MSP Control System
Track direction and level are controlled by our own in-house developed RailSURV MSP control system.
- Online control of deviations from the designed track axis position
- Ability to create transition ramps on site as needed
- No additional surveying guidance is needed on site
- Thanks to the RailSURV MSP system, a machine originally intended for auxiliary work has become capable of precisely adjusting track level and direction to meet even the strictest requirements
Work Procedure – at Least Two Tamping Passes
- Tamping speed: depends on the rail-laying method and the required lift and lining
- Note: the stated outputs are indicative and apply to a prepared site with continuous ballasting
- Phase 0 – Directional adjustment: rough alignment of track direction before actual tamping. SK ±50 mm: 500 m/h, SK > ±100 mm: 200 m/h.
- Phase 1 – Rough tamping: direction SK ±10 mm, level VK +10 to 20 mm below design level. VK +50 mm: 50 m/h, VK > +50 mm: 2× Phase 1.
- Phase 2 – Final tamping: direction SK ±3 mm, level VK ±3 mm – final track geometry. Speed up to 100 m/h.
- 10 mm – minimum level lift (except run-off sections)
- 50 mm – maximum level lift per pass
- 20 mm – optimal directional shift of the track during tamping
Deployment Conditions
- Crew: the machine always comes with an experienced crew
- Transport: we arrange transport to and from the site ourselves – the whole set-up leaves Ostrava by truck or on a trailer towed by a pickup
We provide:
- The MSP or Minima 2 GKR machine
- Guidance via the RailSURV MSP system without additional surveying
To be provided by the client on site:
- Lifting equipment (2 tonnes) for rerailing and removing the MSP
- Ballasting for tamping purposes
- Site readiness – the work follows on from other activities
We can arrange separately on request:
- Track-axis design work
- Establishing a survey control network
- Night work
Operating the Machine Requires an Experienced Crew.
Without a qualified crew, there is a risk of serious errors and devaluation of the completed work. That's why we never rent out the machine on its own – always together with our crew.
